Qi Baoqi

Born in Guangzhou in 1991. Trained first in industrial design—learning the order and logic of reason—she then spent six years at the Repin Academy mastering Western academic realism, seeking balance between discipline and feeling.

Her work rests on the Eastern idea of Xu Shi Xiang Sheng（虛實相生）, the mutual generation of solid and void: academic craft gives the solid—figures and window frames that hold up to scrutiny; Eastern emptiness and the turning of seasons give the void—a cat at the spring window, stillness at winter, a realist face set against an abstract geometric ground. Solid and void generate each other, like Yin（陰） and Yang（陽） rooted in one another. From mosaic inlay she learns the way of mutual presence, treating oil, tempera, inlay, and sculpture as one way of sensing extended across materials.
