About the Artwork

This gold leaf table screen follows the form of a scholar's object: small, set on the desk, giving the eye somewhere to rest while the mind worked. This one keeps that form at miniature scale — about nine inches wide, eighteen and a half tall — for a shelf, a desk, or an entry table.

Sheets of gold leaf are applied to the panel by hand, one over another, and the landscape is painted onto the gold. Move the screen and the light travels along the seams of the leaf, the way it does on a gilded temple wall.

Care

Keep it dry and out of direct sun. Dust the surface with a very soft brush and never press on the panel. Move it by the frame, not by the panels, and store it upright.
