Flexible copper frame

Wound to order · 7–10 studio days

Made entirely by hand. Small variations in the silk turns, leaf curve and shell centre are part of the piece.

Object Facts

Craft: Traditional chanhua silk-wrapping, made entirely by hand.

Materials: Mulberry silk, tarnish-resistant copper and natural mother-of-pearl.

Dimensions: Approx. 19 × 8 cm overall; leaf approx. 3 cm; metal fork approx. 13 cm.

Construction: Each silk-wound leaf is formed around a fine internal wire, then joined into the spray by hand.

Origin: Made in China; every piece varies slightly by hand.

How It Is Worn

Twist, push through, turn a quarter and let go.

Gather the hair low, twist it once, then slide the fork through the twist so the tip catches the hair underneath. A quarter turn locks it in place.

  • Works with a low chignon, French twist or half-up knot.
  • The 13 cm fork suits shoulder-length hair and longer.
  • Leaves and tendrils can be gently posed by hand.
